“No, no, no, no,” I hoarsely cry. At least, I think I do.

I don’t know anything anymore.

Not time, nor space. Feeling or shadows.

I know pain.

I know excruciating agony.

“Please, let me die,” I cry into the moist soil beneath my charred body. I don’t want to move. To breathe. I want to melt into the earth and become one with nature.

“Not happening, princess.” Seven? I think that’s his voice. But he sounds so aggressive, angry; he’s pissed.

“Who did this to you, kid?” My eyes open slightly upon hearing Holden’s voice. My big brother always saves the day for me. I knew he’d come. “Who hurt you, Aria?”

My vision blurs, and my lungs feel like they’re seizing as I break out in a coughing fit that throws my entire body into spasms that bring sheer misery to my full frame.

“Guys, let us get to her,” a strange female voice calls out. A woman shoves Holden and Seven to the side, and I catch a glimpse of Severo.

He looks homicidal as he stares at the burned-out shell of the car that I escaped literal hell from. Sweet, caring Severo, who loves to make me laugh and tease his twin about always being so serious, is the epitome of the grim reaper right now.

The female paramedic asks me a ton of questions, but I ignore her, my concentration firmly fixed on the three men now huddled in a circle watching me and conversing quietly. I know they’re plotting.

They’re going to kill Tristan, and I feel no remorse about that. He left me to burn alive in the middle of nowhere. Whatever they do to him, he deserves.

“I feel dizzy.” The words exhale out on a forced breath, and there’s loud beeping from the machine next to me as bright white enters my vision. At first, I think it’s a light, but then I realize it's my body failing me.

As I hear the continual flatline tone, I wonder, will I ever get to love?
